    San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation

    2020-2021 Community Impact Grant

    Request for Proposals

  • The Kiwanis Club of San Diego and San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation are providing Community Impact Grants at three separate levels. Proposals should be for projects or programs serving youth in San Diego County or Baja California.

The grant funding levels are as follows:

    Level I: $5,000
    Level II: $10,000
    Level III: $25,000 Matching Grant

Notes: The Level III grants will be matched dollar for dollar from new sources raised by the applicant by June 30, 2021. The applicant must report on the use of funds nine and 18 months following the grant award.

If you have received a grant of $20,000 or more from the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation within the last three years, you are not eligible to apply for a Level III grant this year.

    Community Impact Grant Guidelines

The following are specific threshold guideline requirements for any proposed grant request:

    • The Community Impact grants will support programs/projects benefitting children, defined as 18 years of age or younger.
    • The grants will support a single project and are not to be broken down into multiple projects.
    • The geographic area of consideration is San Diego County and Baja California.
    • The grant projects selected will have a significant component of permanency.
    • The grants will result in significant community recognition for the Kiwanis Club of San Diego and its Foundation.
    • The grant recipient organizations must expend the entirety of the grant received within 18 months of receipt, unless an alternative written arrangement is executed between the organization and the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation (“Kiwanis Foundation”). Any remaining unexpended funds are to be returned to the Kiwanis Foundation within 60 days of the 18-month deadline.
    • To be eligible for a Community Impact Grant, the recipient must be a charitable organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and must have been in existence for at least three years.
    • The grant recipient organization application must be sponsored by a member of the Kiwanis Club of San Diego.
    • The grant funds may not be used to fund administrative overhead of the recipient organization.
    • Please submit a separate request for each project for which the organization is seeking funding. Organizations are encouraged to submit grant requests at any or all of the available grant levels. However, only one grant may be awarded per organization.
    • The grant submission period will begin on September 9, 2020 and completed grant applications must be submitted online on or before midnight on October 9, 2020. Late applications will not be considered.
    • The Community Impact Grant recipient organizations will be notified via email and/or by phone by Friday, December 4, 2020.
