Program: Tijuana River Pollution – The History, the Facts, and the Future
Speaker: Carl Nettleton
For decades, the U.S. side of the U.S.-Mexico border has been fouled by Tijuana River pollution. While sewage has gained most of the attention, trash and sediment also flow across the border, together fouling the Imperial Beach shoreline and the Tijuana Estuary. The October 17, 2023, program will explain the history and the facts behind this ongoing binational crisis and the options for the future.
Our speaker will be Carl Nettleton, the original co-founder and chair of the Tijuana River Valley Recovery Team and a current member of the International Boundary and Water Commission’s San Diego Citizens Forum. Nettleton operates Nettleton Strategies, a trusted source of analysis and advice on issues at the forefront of public policy, business, and the environment regarding water, climate, sustainability, the ocean, and binational U.S. Mexico affairs. He publishes the bi-weekly newsletter, The Nett Report, which provides readers with thoughtful perspectives helpful to navigating life in a changing world. He. is also the founder of OpenOceans Global, an international nonprofit focused on ocean plastic in a. new way.
