70th Annual Laurels for Leaders
Sponsor Luncheon & Awards Ceremony

Laurels for Leaders is Kiwanis San Diego’s signature annual event honoring ASB Presidents from high schools across San Diego County for their leadership, service, and impact on their school communities.

The day begins with a student-only leadership workshop that equips ASB Presidents with practical tools and encouragement. Students then join Laurels Event sponsors for a luncheon, followed by an Awards Ceremony with a special honor roll call recognizing each ASB President.

There are several ways for Kiwanis members and community partners to get involved:

Attend the luncheon and awards ceremony by becoming a Laurels Event Sponsor for $500
Can’t attend? Donations of any amount are warmly welcomed and directly support the program
Interested in deeper impact? We welcome corporate sponsors to help keep this important program sustainable for years to come
Not able to donate? We are always looking for volunteers to help make the day possible

Every form of participation helps ensure student leaders across San Diego County feel recognized, encouraged, and inspired to continue leading with purpose.

Money Tales Reading Sessions
at Longfellow Elementary

Join fellow Kiwanians in bringing financial literacy to young readers! We are partnering with the YMCA After School Program at Longfellow Elementary in Clairemont to share the Money Tales book series with local students.

When: Wed, November 4 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM
Where: Longfellow Elementary School, Clairemont

About the Program

Over five weekly sessions, volunteers will guide 30 students per session through all eight Money Tales titles. Each student will receive a take-home copy of every book to continue learning with their families.

Volunteers Needed

We need 2 Kiwanians each week for a 90-minute session. Please arrive 15 minutes early.

SD Zoo Wildlife Alliance
SD Zoo Wildlife Alliance Kiwanian of the Day and SDZWA COO Annie Fitzgerald will introduce Eamon Farrell (VP of Construction & Architecture) & Robyn Badger (Architect) to share major projects at the SD Zoo and Safari Park including the new nationally-acclaimed Elephant Valley project: the largest project in SDZWA’s 109-yr history. This project inspired the SDZWA’s 2026 Rose Parade Grand Marshal Award-winning float “Giant Strides Together”, and its Landscape Design contractor won the 2026 National President’s Award at the American Society of Landscape Architects Annual Design Awards event.

Serve at Youth Assistance Coalition

Date: Friday, November 13
Time: 4:30-6:30 p.m.

YAC

Kiwanis members are invited to participate in a hands-on service evening supporting local youth at the YAC Drop-In Center.

In addition to helping serve dinner, volunteers are encouraged to fully engage in the experience by sitting down and sharing a meal with the youth. This is a great opportunity to build connections and foster a sense of community. Members are also welcome to participate in activities such as games, assisting in the clothing closet, and interacting with youth throughout the evening. The goal is to create a warm, inclusive, and community-centered environment.

Event logistics:

Arrival: 4:30 p.m. | Dinner service: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Parking: Street parking is preferred to keep the main lot open for youth activities; if unavailable, the gated lot may be used
Entry: Call 619-458-6588 upon arrival to have the black gate (facing Commercial Street) opened
Support: YAC staff will assist with setup, provide an overview, and guide volunteers throughout the evening
Drop-in center hours: Open until 8:00 PM

Water Station 4 / Relay Transition Zone Tecolote Shores

Kiwanis members are invited to volunteer at THRIVE! Help bring the San Diego community together for a day celebrating health, wellness, and giving back. This event features scenic race courses along Mission Bay, starting and finishing at Ski Beach. Volunteers play an important role in creating a fun, welcoming, and successful experience for all participants!

Event Logistics:

Help fill up and pass out water cups to runners and clean up the water station at the end!
Cheer on our racers as they pass by while directing our runners on the correct course route. Please pick up trash along the course as you see it!

Arrival: 8:00 PM, with a short rally to go over what needs to come down and where everything goes
Finish: By 9:30 PM at the latest
Parking: Park in the back lot behind the TCW building. A campus map will be provided.
What to bring: Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
