Program: Can Your Dog Talk to You?
Join us on October 18 for our next virtual meeting when UCSD Researcher Federico Rossano will tell us how he and his colleagues have been able to teach dogs and other animals to tell us what they are thinking. Using a soundboard and a series of buttons that related to certain words (I want to go outside! Or I am hungry!), your dog can keep you guessing less and knowing more about what’s going on in that brain of theirs. Don’t miss this cool event!
Speaker: Federico Rossano
Dr. Federico Rossano is an associate professor in the Cognitive Science department at UC San Diego and the founder and director of the Comparative Cognition Lab. He is the lead scientist of TheyCanTalk.org, an animal communication research study collecting data on thousands of dogs and cats learning to communicate with humans through a soundboard. His other research interests are the development of social cognition in children and non-human primates; multimodal communication and its cross-cultural variability; language evolution and the acquisition of social norms.
