City of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Robert Logan II, program manager supervising the hazardous materials response team for SDFD and the County of San Diego, Law Enforcement Honoree

John Wood (Woody) is the Deputy Fire Chief of Special Operations for San Diego Fire-Rescue. John has been employed with San Diego Fire-Rescue for 24 years and currently oversees Air Operations, Bomb Squad, Urban Search and Rescue (US&R CA-TF8), Technical Rescue Team, Hazardous Materials, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Metro Arson Strike Team, All Hazard Incident Management Team, Emergency Management, Terrorism Liaison Officer and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Woody has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Finance, and Associates Degree in Fire Technology and has attended the Wharton School Leadership Program. Additionally, John assisted with the curriculum and attended the Mission Critical Team Development Program Class #1 at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Additional work experience includes Arcadia Fire Department, Pomona Unified School District as a substitute teacher and General Manager of HEM-DIN Corporation. In 1998, Woody became a member of CA-TF8 and has responded to numerous deployments as a task force member and Incident Support Team (IST) member. Notable US&R deployments include the World Trade Center, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, the Oso landslide and the Colorado floods. John is logistics qualified on a Type 2 Incident Management Team (IMT) and has responded to numerous large-scale wildland fires in the United States. A true passion of his was serving as a Bomb Technician and Bomb Squad Commander for 17 years on the San Diego Fire-Rescue Bomb Squad.
